History of our family business

Peter Richardson

Richardsons Yacht Services began in 1988 in Yarmouth, founded by Peter and Barbara Richardson and their son Terry. Originally known as Richardsons Boatbuilders, the business quickly earned a reputation for quality craftsmanship, specialising in motor yacht builds and general yacht repairs.

The move to Island Harbour was a turning point. Over the years, we expanded our infrastructure to include an 18-ton hoist, a mobile crane, and eventually a 20-ton boat mover and 10-ton crane. In 2005, we officially became Richardson’s Yacht Services Ltd. Not long after, the marina installed a new 50 ton Travelift and lifting dock, further enhancing our capabilities.

What began as a few requests for fastenings and parts led to the birth of our chandlery. Over the last 22 years, it has grown into a core part of our business, offering a wide range of marine supplies and engine spares. We are proud to hold Island dealerships with Beta Marine, Vetus and Lombardini Inboard Engines, and Tohatsu Outboards and ePropulsion electric outboards. We are trusted contractors to the RNLI.

Our new Cowes premises

2025 marked another major milestone. After years of growth and with strong support from our customers and staff, we opened a second site at Thetis Wharf, Cowes, right next to the Floating Bridge. This new location brings our chandlery and engineering services to the heart of Cowes and includes a unique offering — a 70ft berth right outside for easy mooring while you shop.

With a dedicated team, modern facilities, and plans to expand the Cowes chandlery even further, we remain committed to offering the same high quality, personal service that’s been at the heart of our business for over three decades.
